Merry Christmas!

Another festive Christmas was enjoyed here on Mars.

As usual, we began our Christmas decorating by hanging Momma Arave's festive glittery bough:



And Mama O'Brien's stockings:

And our traditional set of winter-themed paper cut outs on the dining room table:



On Christmas Day, our friend Brian came over, bringing his famous homemade cranberry-chocolate rugelach for breakfast:



We went out for a movie, and then returned to Mars for lunch, and started cooking dinner.

Delicious cheese, crackers, pickles, and nuts to tide us over:



For dinner this year, AJ made a crab curry, accompanied by slices of the world famous king of all breads, the Tartine country loaf:



The finished crab, potato, okra, coconut milk curry, complete with crab meat piled on top:



For dessert, AJ once again made a salted honey pie, with homemade crust:



Thank you for all that effort, AJ, and thank you, Brian, for your usual sharp wit, good company, and delicious rugelach!

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and a very Happy New Year to everyone! Looking forward to seeing what 2017 has in store!

Hello Mars fans! I am here, guest blogger #1, to serve you, loyal readers. I am here at the behest of our mutual friend Bob the Builder, a.k.a Doozer, a.k.a. Tuesday I waited around for 3 folks we hired for a couple hours to carry heavy things. We actually couldn't figure any better way to get the heaviest stove ever created up into the house. 2 of 3 men showed up so I ended up gloving up and helping lug that gigantic beast up our stairs and into the house. It was touch & go for a bit, but we got it in. Here it is - stripped of anything we could get out or off of it to make it lighter. We'll soon move it back and into that left corner, but we needed access for the repairs and to move the wall mounted heat shield up a wee bit. Bob Desrosiers, 1944-2015

No work on the house again this week. Instead, we both flew back to New Hampshire to say goodbye to my father, Bob. 1962 He was a funny, humble, affable guy. He was a fixture in the neighborhood, spending summers sitting on his deck, looking out on the lake, and waving to neighbors driving by. About 70 people turned out to pay their respects at the memorial on Friday night. Here is his obituary , for those who never had the opportunity to meet him: Robert R. Desrosiers June 3, 1944 ~ October 13, 2015 Robert Rene Desrosiers, 71, passed away at his home in Derry, NH, on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, surrounded by loving family. Bob was born on June 3, 1944 in Lowell, MA, to Albert Desrosiers and Florence (Lemire) Desrosiers. He loved playing the guitar, spending time on his boat, and cooking for his family. Coming To The End

Mr. Bunkport tells us that they're just about done. Here's what they accomplished today: A very nice looking threshold. No toe-stubbing here. Lots of insulation, lots of sheetrock. Window trim! Trim on the section that got cut back to avoid head-bumping. And then this weird Blair Witch thing. Next, the rest of the sheetrock & putting in the floor, then some odds & ends, like replacing the dryer vent. If the weather holds, we should be in very good shape for the weekend!
